Anytime I come across polar bears in the wild, they have shown me something amazing. Whether it is a brilliant display of their intelligence or power or a playfulness - like this one who surprised me by falling asleep clutching a piece of ice - bears are individuals and real characters. Polar regions are at our mercy, as sea ice rapidly disappears due to warming temperatures. These polar ecosystems will be the first to experience massive change, but every other biome on Earth will follow. We need to take action today.

Always happy and honored to have a picture included in “The Best of Photography” (this version is for 2018. The almost impossible job to edit the amazing pictures in the magazine falls to @roseleen the director of Photography for @NatGeo. You can see the entire edit by following the link in my bio. Paralympian sprinter @wallace_jarryd Wallace’s mechanics are analyzed at the Southern Methodist University Locomotor Performance Laboratory in Dallas, Texas. “There was a lot I was doing wrong,” says Wallace, 28. The four-time world record holder, whose lower right leg had to be amputated because of a muscle disorder, uses the lab’s analysis of his stride to run even faster.

Charlie Hamilton James a făcut această fotografie pentru documentarul „Why poison is a threat for Africa's wildlife".

From the current issue of @natgeo magazine - Poisoning Africa looks at the scale of wildlife poisoning across the continent and the myriad reasons why deliberate poisoning of animals has become normal practice. This image shows lightning ripping the sky behind Masai herders as they bring their cattle into the Masai Mara Reserve at night to graze. The result of this is regular conflict with lions and hyenas who have developed techniques specific to hunting the Masai’s cows. Retaliation for this sometimes leads to poisoning the predators - as we have documented in the story when the famous Marsh Pride was poisoned. The problem is of course layered and complex but ultimately tragic.

Laura Sermeño and her baby boy celebrate the end of her cuarentena, or quarantine. The tradition, common throughout Latin America, requires new mothers to rest under the care of their relatives for some 40 days after childbirth. The period ends with a mother-child herbal bath and a massage. This ceremony was prepared and guided by @doulajennysilva. This photo was shot #onassignment for @natgeo with @ivankphoto. The story was published in the July 2018 issue in the feature: “How Latinos Are Shaping America’s Future.” #Latinos #abuelitas #indigenous #sealingceremony #traditionalbirth #nurture #postpartum #medicinewoman #partera #latinxpower #facesofthefuture #women #latinowomen #losangeles
